2008 Time Trial Training Series Clinic Dedicated to Dale Wright
UPDATE FOR STAGE 3: Cancellation
The Whitmore stage of the Redding Time Trial Training Series has been canceled due to the continuing smoke issues and fires that are present in our region. The smoke presents significant health risks, especially when riding at a max effort which is typical of time trials.
Let’s hope for relief for the firefighters as well as for those whose homes continue to be threatened in the north state.
The next time trial will take place on August 24th.
We strive to maintain a safe and high quality event for you, the rider. Thanks for your understanding.

IN DEDICATION This series is dedicated to Dale Wright, a Redding Velo club member, who recently lost his life while cycling. Known as a caring and kind person, he never hesitated to help others whether in life or on the bike. Dale, always thinking of others, gave the gift of life by donating his organs. His family wishes to make all of us aware of the existence of the Donate Life organization at www.donatelife.net and the organ donor program at One Legacy www.onelegacy.org
WHO LET THE HORSES OUT? Outsiders Report- AP Tripps News Service The first in the series of Redding Velo Time Trials went off without a hitch on Sunday May 18th. The parking lot of the horse corral was the scene for horsepower of a different kind. In addition to the standard out and back, 18 lb, carbon fiber, time trial specific racing machines, the crowd was surprised to see standard road racing machines (some vintage), two tandems and even a couple of stray mountain bikes! The vibe was rather calm and relaxed as the riders pumped up their tires with an extra bit of pressure and warmed up on a somewhat flat, out and back 6.2 mile course. Perhaps it was the aura of a far northern California event or the genuine feeling of furtune as a group of like minded individuals gathered to participate in the race of truth and remember their friend and counterpart Dale Wright. The first rider went off at 9:00, southbound into a tricky crosswind that had them guessing whether it was from the front or back. The riders, sent off at 30 second intervals, quickly settled into their most efficient positions and started calculating how much energy they needed to save for the slightly uphill leg as the course turned around and headed for the finish. One by one the riders negotiated the U-turn and were greeted with the gentle north wind in their faces. Yes, this was the wind that they knew would show itself at some point. At the 1.5 mile to go mark, the road goes gently upward, just enough of a grade to pull any reserve energy from the riders' legs. This is where the less fit cyclists started losing their smoothness while the real greyhounds held it together and charged the finish line. By the time the last rider was in, the results were complete and the riders gathered around to find out their finish time. A nice list of items was raffled off and some kind words were said by race organizers, family members of Dale, and Redding Velo presented a matted race jersey to sponsor Knauf Insulation in honor of Dale Wright. Many participants received information from the Donate Life California booth and signed up to become organ donors. A big thanks to the volunteers who made it all possible! If you missed this first in a series event, plan on participating in the Wildcat Climb Time Trial on June 15th.
